Complete Description:

The District of Columbia Board of Elections (DCBOE) is the independent agency of the District government responsible for the administration of elections, ballot access, and voter registration. DCBOE consists of three active Board members, an Executive Director, a General Counsel, and a number of support staff who run the day-to-day operations of the Agency.

The mission of BOE is to enfranchise eligible residents, conduct elections, and assure the integrity of the electoral process. This mission is mandated by federal and local statutes. The schedule of elections, which is dictated by law, requires flexibility in the funding levels established from year to year. This mission is executed through the operation of the District’s voter registration system; by administration of the ballot access process for candidates and measures; through the delivery of comprehensive public, media, and voter information services, by maintenance of technical systems to support voting, ballot tabulation, and electronic mapping of election district boundaries; through planning and implementation of each District of Columbia election; and through the performance of legal counsel, rulemaking, and adjudication functions.

DCBOE is looking for an entry level Network Engineer to monitor the networks for performance related issues and coordinate with OCTO staff in making sure the LAN, WAN, and VLAN are performing to expectations. The ideal resource will have a BS degree or the equivalent experience in network engineering.

Incumbent supports network monitoring, analyzes network traffic and troubleshoots network performance issues and implements solutions when necessary.

Utilizes software and hardware tools and identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance.

Participates in capacity planning solutions and advises on facility hardware and software problems. Interfaces with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance.

Supports the purchase, testing, installation, and support of network communications, including Local Area Network (LAN)/Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)/ Wide Area Network (WAN) systems and VLans.

Provides assistance and oversight for all information systems operations activities, including computer and telecommunications/communications operations, data entry, data control, LAN/MAN/WAN administration and operations support, operating systems programming, system security policy procedures, and/or web strategy and operations.
