The District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) is seeking a Systems Engineer to assist in the development and support of the HSEMA production and development environments. The Systems Engineer will take a lead role in the design, build and maintenance of current critical HSEMA systems (primarily Windows) and network infrastructure as well as take a lead role in suggesting changes or improvements to IT technology, policies, and procedures relating to applications and systems deployment.
Current systems that the Systems Engineer will assist in overseeing include: CCTV and video technologies, AV and conferencing facilities, security applications, web/application servers, application and patch deployment tools, Microsoft Exchange servers, and network administration protocols and technologies.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology discipline as well as certification in key areas such as Microsoft Administration and preferably security technologies. Sufficient industry experience in this area is a requirement. The Systems Engineer should have at least 8 years of experience as a systems administrator in government and commercial environments. Experience with CCTV and network security technologies is required and experience in a secure or public services environment is desirable.
Required Experience:
Experience as a systems administrator (Required 8 Years)
State Government IT Systems development experience (Highly desired)
CCNA Certification (Highly desired)
Public Safety Processes and Technology experience (Highly desired)
IT Infrastructure Design, Administration and Implementation Planning (Required 5 Years)
Assist with admin of servers, SAN, RAID, Terminal Server, Backup Exec, (Required 4 Years)
Technical development with .Net, Java or other web-based languages (Desired)
Administration of Windows Enterprise Server, Red Hat Linux (Required 6 Years)
Experience with LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, POP3/SMTP, FTP,VPN, NAT (Required 4 Years)
Question 1:
All projects will require excellent verbal and writing skills. It is required that the candidate be self-sufficient and supply their own laptop computer with all necessary software tools and applications, wireless device (cellular telephone, PDA, etc). HSEMA will provide a work space, network connectivity and use of a desk telephone. Please note that there are no reimbursable expenses allocated to this position.
